25 and a half days to go

No, today was no good either. No exercise and really tasty, but not particularly diet - sensible food.

I will start like every normal person, on January 1st!

Go resolutions!!

I actually kind of miss fitbyfun.com, tho. Maybe there is a latent rabid exerciser inside, after all.

See you in 2009!

Habit Forming - becoming an acolyte in the Temple of Me

Hanukka and Chrsitmas have taken their bows, and the New Year is giggling excitedly on its mark, waiting for the curtains to rise on January 1st.

Countdowns are wonderful! A few years ago, a friend introduced me to the Advent calendar, which is the countdown to Christmas Day. Wikipedia gives this description of Advent: "The period of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus; in other words, the period immediately before Christmas", and I think it's great. You get a chocolate every day in the little window on the calendar, too.

I decided to make an Advent calendar for my birthday, with a dual purpose. (Since my birthday is January 25th, I dont even really have to change the dates, etc.)
Firstly, I get to track exactly how many days are left.
And, an article recently said that to create a new habit for yourself, the thing needs to be done for 2 weeks straight; 14 days in a row . So I think I could use this Advent calendar to track the indoctrination of the new habits I want to acquire: eating healthy and exercising, every day.

I had thought to start this with 30 days to go - December 25th to January 25th. I'm very lucky to have read that article about needing only 14 days, because that gives me lots of leeway on what date to actually start paying attention...

It really is necessary for me to do these 2 things, there is no getting around it. My body is a run down temple, neglected and graffitied . It needs to have the Greek indolence run out if it, and a little more Macabee discipline fostered. ( - maybe I only need 8 DAYS to get into a habitual groove?)

So starting tomorrow (today is already a wash) - the countdown begins!

www.fitbyfun.com and natural food diet, here I come!

Wish me luck! ;)

More thoughts on 40

I have decided that part of the problem with turning 40 is the word itself.

Fourty.... the "F" sound in the begining just doesnt bode well for what follows it.

FFFFFF......... sounds like someone is going to curse you out, but only under their breath in a sneaky way. And it sounds derisive.

I dont like it at all.

I am planning on changing my Fourty to Thorty.

This new word is scientifically proven to lift your mood when you say it, as opposed to fourty.

The "TH" sound is much closer to other words that are nicer; "thirty", for example, and "thanks!"

And of course the Norse god Thor, who is a symbol of youth and vitality , which is what the new 40 is all about!

So call me not fourty, call me thorty.

But do call. ;)

My God, Ive done it - I have a blog!

A Blog. With a capital B.

Since I have started so many new things in the past 5 months, and since I am still up in the air about most of them, and since one thing that has always helped me find my feet is to write about "it": I have a Blog. I might be the only one who ever reads it, but thats fine.

As can be deduced from the title, I am about to turn 40. I have made recent changes to my career - I now have 3 jobs. But that Im actually ok with that at the moment, so its not an issue, except to say that I am enjoying working with little kids so much I should be paying them.

I also have a new fitness regime. (Ha! Ive been doing it for a week!).

For the longest time, I saw what I wanted to see when I looked in the mirror. Recently, I made myself look at myself full frontal, not missing a thing.

And I was shocked to see this short, almost dumpy, angry looking.... who is that there? Is that what my face looks like? Plumpness on my forehead had given me heavy brows, and that was the last straw. Not even the huffing and puffing I had been doing while going up stairs affected me as much as that cross expression.

So I am trying to stop eating bread, which is hard cause I love it, and I am trying to do fitness things every day, which is actually easy thanks to fitbyfun.com.

Dancing and music are two very important things to me, and I really like the routines on the site, and also the music is great! So I might be able to lose weight and get fitter without feeling like I am "working" at all - one big obstacle in the past was that working out was boring, and this is just fun. Maybe I just needed to do something I liked in order to actually want to do it - which is something that, as I get nearer to 40 (51 days and counting), is the way I want to run things around here anyway! LOL

More to come, it will be interesting, I promise. ;)
